One serum is usually enough
Reading time: 3 minutes
Most routines that stop working have too many steps, not too few. Four serums layered on top of each other dilute each other, take longer to sink in and make it hard to tell which one is doing anything. One serum chosen for one goal is easier to judge and easier to keep using.

Start with hydration
Every skin type, oily skin included, behaves better when it holds enough water. Well-hydrated skin feels softer, fine lines look shallower and makeup blends more evenly. If you are not sure which serum to start with, start with Hyaluronic Water Serum on damp skin, followed by a moisturizer.
Pick the serum by the goal
| Your goal | Ingredient | SÉRA serum |
|---|---|---|
| Less shine, smaller-looking pores | Niacinamide 10% | Niacinamide 10 Serum |
| Brighter tone, fading marks | Vitamin C 15% | Vitamin C 15 Serum |
| Smoother texture, softer lines | Retinal 0.1% | Retinal 0.1 Night Serum |
| Calmer, less red skin | Centella 30% | Centella Calm Serum |
| Plumper, more comfortable skin | Hyaluronic acid 2% | Hyaluronic Water Serum |

Where the serum goes
- Cleanse with Cloud Gel Cleanser, morning and night.
- Prep with Rice Water Essence if your skin is dry.
- Treat with your one serum, three to four drops.
- Moisturize to hold it in, then SPF in the morning.
Once your skin has settled with one serum for four weeks, you can add a second one at the other end of the day. Vitamin C in the morning and retinal at night is the most common pair.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a serum if my skin is oily?
Oily skin can still be dehydrated. A water-based serum adds hydration without weight.
If I use two serums, which goes first?
The thinner one. Wait about 30 seconds between them.
How long should I give a new serum?
Four weeks of daily use, unless it stings or causes redness that lasts into the next day.
