Switching your routine for winter
Reading time: 4 minutes
In winter, low humidity outside and heating inside make skin lose water faster. Most routines only need a few swaps to keep up, and you can keep everything else as it is.

Four changes
| Step | Summer | Winter |
|---|---|---|
| Evening cleanse | Gel cleanser | Oat Milk Balm Cleanser |
| Moisturizer | Daily Gel Cream | Barrier Cream |
| Face oil | Usually not needed | Squalane Face Oil on the driest nights |
| Exfoliation | As usual | Once a week, paused if skin stings |
In detail
- Swap to a balm cleanser in the evening. Oat Milk Balm Cleanser removes sunscreen without the tight feeling.
- Move up one step in moisturizer. If you use a gel cream in summer, switch to Barrier Cream.
- Add a face oil on the driest nights. Two drops of Squalane Face Oil pressed over your cream.
- Cut exfoliation to once a week, and pause it if skin stings.
Keep the sunscreen
UVA rays, the ones linked to skin aging and dark spots, are present year-round and pass through windows. Keep SPF in your morning routine, especially on bright snowy days.
Snow reflects sunlight back onto your face, so a bright winter day can mean more exposure than you expect.
Daily Sheer Fluid SPF 50 layers easily over a richer winter cream.

The small things
- Wash with lukewarm water, never hot
- Apply moisturizer within a minute of washing, while skin is damp
- Use Overnight Lip Balm before bed
- Run a humidifier in the bedroom if the air feels dry

Frequently asked questions
Should I stop using actives in winter?
Not necessarily. Keep them if skin is comfortable, and reduce exfoliation first if it is not.
Does oily skin need a richer cream in winter?
Often a little. Try Barrier Cream at night only and keep your lighter cream in the morning.
Where does face oil go in my routine?
Press it over your cream as the last step at night. In the morning, sunscreen always goes last.
