Reading time: 5 minutes

Niacinamide is vitamin B3. It is one of the few actives that suits almost every skin type, and it works well alongside retinal, vitamin C and acids. That makes it a good first active for anyone building a routine.

Niacinamide 10 Serum bottle on moss

What it does

  • Less shine: helps skin produce less visible oil through the day.
  • Smaller-looking pores over several weeks.
  • More even tone: fades the look of post-blemish marks.
  • Stronger barrier: helps skin hold on to water better.

2% or 10%?

Strength Role Where you find it Best for
2 to 5% Support ingredient, working in the background Rice Water Essence, Daily Gel Cream Every skin type
10% The main event Niacinamide 10 Serum Oily and combination skin that wants less shine and smoother-looking pores
Higher is not always better

Some people feel a brief warmth or see mild redness at 10%. If that happens, use the serum once a day for two weeks before moving to twice.

How long it takes

Result When to expect it
Shine control Within days
Pores and tone Eight to twelve weeks of daily use

Give it time. Judge pores and tone after three months of daily use, not three weeks.

What to pair it with

The old advice to keep niacinamide and vitamin C apart came from tests on pure, unstable ingredients at high heat, and it does not apply to modern formulas.

A simple morning

  1. Cloud Gel Cleanser
  2. Niacinamide 10 Serum
  3. Daily Gel Cream
  4. Daily Sheer Fluid SPF 50

Frequently asked questions

Can I use niacinamide twice a day?

Yes, once your skin is used to it. Start once a day at 10% if your skin is reactive.

Is niacinamide safe with retinal?

Yes. They pair well, and niacinamide's barrier support can make retinal easier to tolerate.

Do I need the serum if my moisturizer already has niacinamide?

Not always. A 2 to 5% level supports skin every day. Add the 10% serum if you want more visible change in shine and pores.
